About Ropp

Your Prosthetic Clinic in Commerce Township
Since 1994

For over 30 years, Ropp Orthopedic Clinic has been a beacon of hope in Commerce Township. Founded on the principle that everyone deserves pain-free mobility, we have become Southeast Michigan’s most trusted destination for prosthetic and orthotic excellence.

What sets us apart is our personal, non-corporate approach and our on-site fabrication lab. Most importantly, our results speak for themselves—like ending Jim Beardsley’s 34 years of suffering. This proves how our genuine commitment transforms lives and builds lasting trust.

The Ropp Story

Three Decades of Dedication

1. Our Foundation and Philosophy

Ropp was born from frustration with the industry’s acceptance of “good enough.” Our founder, Jeff Ropp, saw corporate systems where business metrics consistently trumped patient comfort and where individuals were told that their constant pain was simply normal.

He established our clinic on a revolutionary premise: prosthetic pain is not normal and perfection is achievable. We measure success by your comfort and capability, not profit margins. This patient-first commitment drives every single decision we make.

2. Building on Experience

Jeff Ropp developed his unique expertise through diverse experiences. His early work with the Variety Club of Michigan gave him rare skills in upper extremity prosthetics. Later, at a large national company, he mastered modern 3D scanning and fabrication.

His time in the corporate world also taught him what not to do, seeing how quotas and central fabrication failed patients. Ropp was created to be different, blending advanced technology with the genuine, hands-on care of a family business.

3. Growth Through Excellence

We haven’t grown through advertising but rather through powerful testimonials of patient success. Our reputation is built on word-of-mouth and stories like Jim Beardsley’s, which prove what is possible and inspire others to finally seek our care.

By resisting corporate buyouts, we’ve remained intentionally independent. This freedom allows us to uphold our patient-first standards without compromise. Our growth validates our core belief: that patients will always recognize and reward genuine commitment and proven prosthetic excellence.

Ropp Different

Family-Owned Independence

As a family-owned clinic, we don’t answer to shareholders or corporate quotas. This independence allows us to make decisions others can’t, like spending all day on one patient or remaking a socket multiple times until it is absolutely perfect.

Our family ownership also provides stability you can count on. We’re not subject to corporate mergers or constant staff changes. When you choose us, you are choosing consistent, reliable care from a team that is deeply invested in this community.

On-Site Everything

Our complete on-site fabrication lab eliminates the delays and excuses common at other clinics. When you need an adjustment, we do it immediately. This means problems are solved quickly, refinements happen in real-time, and repairs won’t leave you stranded.

Jeff personally oversees all fabrication, ensuring true continuity of care. The expert who evaluated your needs is the same one ensuring they are met during creation. This seamless process, impossible with remote fabrication, is key to our superior outcomes.

Unmatched Expertise

Our team offers exceptional qualifications for your care. Jeff Ropp brings over 30+ years of rare, specialized experience. Stephanie Miner’s dual background in psychology and orthotics provides unique patient insight, while our technicians are true craftsmen dedicated to quality.

However, true expertise extends beyond credentials alone. It’s the ability to solve nearly any challenge efficiently because we’ve seen it before. This experience saves you time, money, and suffering by finding the right solution without painful trial-and-error.

Our

Commitment to the Community

Serving Southeast Michigan

While our prosthetic clinic is in Commerce Township, our service extends throughout Southeast Michigan. We serve patients from Detroit to Ann Arbor, from Sterling Heights to Brighton. Our home visit program ensures that geographic barriers don’t prevent access to quality care.

We’re invested in this community beyond just business. We support local amputee support groups, collaborate with regional hospitals, participate in community events, and contribute to local charitable causes. Southeast Michigan isn’t just our service area—it’s our home.

Education and
Advocacy

Jeff has served as a professor at Eastern Michigan University’s Prosthetic and Orthotic program, sharing expertise with the next generation of practitioners. He’s been a lecturer, expert witness, and supporter of the Brain Injury Association of Michigan. This educational commitment advances the entire field.

We advocate for amputees’ rights to quality care, fighting insurance denials, challenging acceptance of prosthetic pain as normal, and pushing for coverage of necessary services. Your success requires more than just good prosthetics—it requires a healthcare system that supports optimal outcomes.

Charitable
Contributions

Christ Thiobino’s story exemplifies our charitable commitment. Working with Children’s Medical Missions West, we donated time and expertise to create prosthetics for a child from West Africa. This wasn’t about publicity—it was about a child who needed to walk.

We regularly provide reduced-cost or free services for patients in genuine need. We work with charitable organizations to expand access to quality prosthetics. We believe everyone deserves the chance to walk without pain, regardless of their ability to pay.

Why Patients Choose Ropp

Our results are undeniable, validated by patients like Jim Beardsley who travels 780 miles for our care. This success comes from the Ropp experience: we listen without rushing and commit to your goals, turning lost hope into a pain-free reality.

This trust has been earned over 30 years by consistently delivering on our promises. We persist until every problem is solved, which is why the medical community confidently refers their most complex cases to us, knowing we deliver when others can’t.

The

Technology and Innovation at Ropp

1. Advanced Technologies, Thoughtfully Applied

We invest in technologies that improve outcomes, not gadgets that impress. Our 3D scanning captures precise anatomy. Our pressure mapping reveals hidden problems. Our CAD systems enable complex designs. But technology never replaces expertise—it enhances it.

We’re the only prosthetic clinic in Michigan licensed for the HiFi Socket System, a revolutionary approach that solves problems traditional methods can’t address. We invested in this training because it helps patients, not because it’s marketable. This selective adoption of technology ensures you benefit from innovation without paying for gimmicks.

2. Traditional Craftsmanship Endures

While embracing helpful technology, we maintain traditional craftsmanship that technology can’t replace. Hand lamination techniques that ensure strength. Manual adjustments that require trained touch. Artistic finishing that makes prosthetics personal. These skills, honed over decades, remain irreplaceable.

The combination of modern technology with traditional craftsmanship creates superior outcomes. We can 3D scan your limb, then hand-modify the design based on experience. We use computerized alignment systems, then refine based on your feedback. This synthesis produces results neither approach alone could achieve.

3. Continuous Learning and Improvement

The prosthetics field evolves constantly, and we evolve with it. We attend conferences, pursue additional certifications, test new materials and methods, and learn from every patient interaction. Improvement isn’t a goal—it’s an ongoing process.

But we’re selective about change. New doesn’t always mean better. We evaluate innovations critically, adopting what truly helps while avoiding costly distractions. This thoughtful approach to advancement ensures you benefit from progress without becoming guinea pigs for unproven methods.

The

Ropp Team Advantage

Leadership with Vision

Jeff Ropp’s leadership sets the tone for everything at Ropp. His refusal to accept prosthetic pain as normal drives our entire approach. His patience with difficult cases inspires our team’s persistence. His treatment of patients as people, not cases, defines our culture.

Leadership means more than managing—it means doing. Jeff still sees patients personally, oversees fabrication directly, and handles complex cases himself. This hands-on leadership ensures that our standards remain high and our mission stays clear.

Specialized Expertise

Our team brings specialized expertise to your care. Stephanie Miner, our Director of Orthotics, combines technical excellence with psychological insight. Her philosophy that “we are put on this rock to help others” permeates our orthotic department.

All team members contribute their unique strengths. Our technicians bring years of fabrication expertise. Our administrative staff understands the human side of healthcare. Together, we provide comprehensive care that addresses all aspects of your prosthetic journey.

Collaborative Culture

Our team works collaboratively, not in silos. When Jeff encounters an orthotic need, Stephanie seamlessly steps in. When fabrication requires special expertise, our technicians consult together. This collaboration ensures you benefit from our collective knowledge, not just individual capabilities.

This culture extends to external collaboration. We work closely with physicians, physical therapists, and other specialists. We’re not territorial about patient care—we’re focused on optimal outcomes regardless of who contributes to achieving them.

Living Fully

Beyond Pain Relief

Innovation with Purpose

As we look forward to the future, we remain committed to innovation that serves purpose, not publicity. We'll adopt new technologies that improve outcomes. We'll develop new techniques that solve problems. We'll expand services that patients need. But we'll never change for change's sake. Our future innovations will be guided by patient needs, not market trends. If new materials reduce skin breakdown, we'll use them. If new designs improve comfort, we'll implement them. If new services enhance accessibility, we'll provide them. Purpose drives progress at Ropp.

Maintaining Our Core Values

Growth and advancement won't compromise our core values. We'll remain family-owned and independent. We'll maintain our on-site fabrication capabilities. We'll continue providing unlimited adjustments and home visits. Success won't change who we are. These commitments might limit our growth by traditional business metrics. We'll never be the largest prosthetic chain or the most profitable. We'll continue being what matters most: the clinic that delivers when others can't, cares when others won't, and persists when others quit.

Expanding Our Impact

While maintaining our Commerce Township roots, we're exploring ways to expand our impact. This might include training other prosthetists in our methods, developing new technologies that advance the field, or creating programs that improve access to quality care. Expansion isn't about building an empire—it's about helping more people experience what our current patients enjoy: pain-free, unlimited living. Whether through direct service, education, or innovation, we're committed to advancing prosthetic care beyond our walls.
